* General Training Questions *
What kind of training methods do you use?
I use only science-backed, positive reinforcement methods. That means no shock collars, prong collars, or intimidation. I focus on rewarding behaviors we want, preventing those we don’t, and teaching your dog in a way that builds trust, confidence, and real-life skills.
Do you use aversive tools like e-collars or prong collars?
No. Research shows that aversives can increase fear and anxiety, and often suppress behavior without resolving the underlying cause. I’m committed to using compassionate, effective, and humane training methods rooted in behavioral science.
How do dogs learn?
Dogs don’t misbehave out of spite—they behave based on what’s worked for them in the past.
Whether it’s jumping, barking, or ignoring a recall, there’s always a reason behind the behavior. I teach clients to use:
Classical conditioning (changing how your dog feels about a situation)
Operant conditioning (reinforcing the behaviors you want to see more of)
Management and prevention (setting your dog up for success)
With a little consistency and the right communication, your dog will learn what earns rewards—and what doesn’t. It’s not magic. It’s science. And it works.
Can you guarantee my dog’s behavior will change?
No ethical trainer can guarantee results—because dogs are living beings, not machines. What I can guarantee is my full commitment to providing you with a customized, science-based training plan, ongoing support, and tools to build lasting change with your dog.
How many sessions will I need?
That depends on your goals and your dog’s individual learning pace. Some issues can improve with a few sessions; others may require ongoing support. During your first session, I’ll help you map out a realistic training timeline.
* Private Training & Puppy Training *
What age should I start training my puppy?
As early as 8 weeks! Early socialization, confidence building, and handling practice are critical.
Do you work with adult dogs too?
Absolutely. Whether you’ve just adopted an adult dog or want to fix long-standing behaviors, I offer customized training plans for dogs of all ages.
What can we work on during private sessions?
Private sessions are tailored to your goals. Some common focus areas include:
Puppy biting, crate training, potty training
Leash pulling, jumping, recall
Barking at the window or fence
Counter surfing, demand barking, door dashing
Confidence building, socialization, and handling comfort
* Behavior Consults *
What behavior cases do you take?
I work with some dogs experiencing mild reactivity, fear, and over-arousal. I do not take cases involving bites or serious risk to people or other animals. For those and other severe cases, I’m happy to refer you to a certified behavior consultant or veterinary behaviorist.
Will you work with aggressive dogs?
No. If your dog has a history of aggression, I recommend reaching out to certified professionals such as:
Amanda Rietheimer, CDBC, CPDT-KA – Animal Behavior Focus
Teri Mercatante, CBCC-KA
Beth Brown, CDBC, CPDT-KSA – Ear to Tail
Dr. Lore Haug (DVM, DACVB) – Veterinary Behaviorist in Sugar Land
* Board & Train / Luxury Boarding *
What’s the difference between Board & Train and regular boarding with a training add-on?
Board & Train is a full training program with multiple structured sessions per day, progress tracking, and transfer lessons when your dog returns home.
Boarding with a training add-on includes one goal per stay with light daily practice and enrichment—but is not a substitute for a full training plan.
What behaviors can be worked on during boarding stays?
With the training add-on, you can choose one focus such as:
Leash manners
Crate comfort
“Drop it” or “Off” cues
Door manners or greeting guests
Confidence-building adventure walks
Calm behavior around distractions
Will my dog’s training last after they come home?
Yes—if you keep up the work! You’ll receive notes, a go-home lesson (for Board & Train), and follow-up guidance to help maintain progress.
What’s the daily routine like during a Board & Train?
Your dog gets 2–3 focused training sessions per day, structured enrichment, play or walk time, naps, and lots of love. It’s designed to feel like home—not a kennel.
Do you provide updates?
Yes! You’ll receive photos, videos, and notes during their stay so you’re always in the loop.
* Health & Logistics *
Do you require vaccines?
Yes, dogs must be up to date on core vaccinations (Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella). Flea/tick prevention is also recommended. Puppies should be on their vet’s vaccination schedule.
What areas do you serve?
In-person services are available in Conroe, The Woodlands, Tomball, Magnolia, Montgomery, Spring and the general North Houston area. Virtual consultations and training are available everywhere!
What should I bring to a session or stay?
For boarding: Food, treats, medications (if any), and a crate or bed your dog loves.
For training: A harness, leash, and high-value treats, a clicker and treat pouch. I’ll guide you if anything else is needed.
